Kids are known to be picky eaters. Most of the time, children will say that they don’t like something just because it doesn’t look pleasing to them. Instead of using dull looking canned vegetables with a meal or in a party dish, use fresh vegetables or thawed frozen vegetables. The bright colors will make boring food into fun kids food and will have them more interested in eating. There are a lot of options for fun party food for kids.
A fun party food for kids would be a build your own pasta salad bar or mini baked potato bar. For a pasta bar, mix tri-colored and whole wheat rotini in a bowl for color and variety. Have dishes with lean meats such as chicken, lean ham and steak available. Also include dishes of fresh vegetables such as green peppers, purple onions, grape tomatoes, fresh broccoli cut into small pieces, whole black olives and any of your child’s favorite vegetables. Use portion cups with Italian dressing in them for each child to have just one cup to put on their pasta salad. To make a mini baked potato bar, use the small new potatoes or fingerling potatoes, and have them sliced in half for the children. Have healthy options such as a homemade chili, real cheddar cheese, turkey bacon and other favorites. These are a couple of fun kids food ideas that they will be more than happy to indulge in.
Kids also tend to steer more toward things that they can pick up easily in their hands. A great fun kids food is sliders. Mini sandwiches are easy for them to pick up and handle. Let them build their own by having healthy options for them to top their sandwiches with. Fun party food for kids can also consist of a vegetable tray with mini vegetables. Include vegetables such as mini carrots, whole black olives, grape tomatoes and thin celery sticks. Make a dip for them using a packet of dry ranch dressing mix and dry onion soup mix along with one cup of Greek yogurt and one cup of reduced fat sour cream. It will taste just like ranch dressing but will be much healthier. Have little cups next to the tray so that they can put their dip into the cup. This fun kids food idea also lets them be in control of their choices while still eating healthy.
